At 1:50 a.m., in Franklin, Ohio, on State Route 73, a Franklin police officer attempted to pull over a Cadillac for speeding.  The driver of the Cadillac sped up and the officer pursued.  Speeds during the pursuit reached 120 miles per hour.  Officers from several area departments heard the pursuit and responded to assist. While traveling south on U.S. Route 42 near Waynesville, the suspect driver struck one Warren County Sheriff’s Office cruiser, driving it into a ditch.  He ran a second Sheriff’s Office cruiser off the road. Sergeant Dulle responded to U.S. Route 42 at Utica Road in Lebanon where he intended to deploy Stop Sticks.  At 2:01 a.m., while traveling about 100 miles per hour, the driver drove the Cadillac off the side of the road and into Sergeant Dulle who was standing outside his vehicle; killing him instantly.  The Cadillac continued on into a ditch, struck a culvert and lost a tire; then went airborne, sheared off a street sign post, and ended up in a field across Utica Road.  The driver of the Cadillac survived uninjured and escaped on foot.

About 5 a.m., the owner of the Cadillac called to report that it had been stolen.  About 6:15 a.m., a Warren County Deputy Sheriff apprehended the driver, 22-year-old Marcus Anthony Isreal, walking 1½ miles from the crash site on State Route 122 at Drake Road.  Isreal had an extensive criminal record, including convictions for robbery and drug offenses, and had already been incarcerated for a time in an Ohio prison. 

Sergeant Dulle was survived by his wife, Abbie; three children, Madelyn (a cancer survivor), Emma, and Jackson; parents, Edward and Denise; grandmother, Winnie; and several siblings, nieces, and nephews.  On May 13, 2011, for six hours, thousands of relatives, friends, and law enforcement personnel filed past his closed casket at Christ's Church at Mason.  The next day, May 14, 2011, 1500 attended his funeral service at the church.  He was then taken to and buried at Lebanon Cemetery. 

Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell took the case before a grand jury on Friday, May 13, 2011.  They returned nine indictments, including Murder, Felonious Assault, Receiving Stolen Property, and Having Weapons Under Disability. On October 24, 2011, Isreal was convicted of Murder with a gun specification and sentenced to Life Imprisonment with a minimum actual incarseration of 21 years.
