On September 17, 1928, Constable Tressler investigated a robbery on Second Pooles Creek Road in Campbell County. Three men ambushed and shot him in the back. He was rushed to Speers Memorial Hospital in Dayton.
Constable Tressler died three days later on September 20, 1928. He was survived by his wife, Hattie (44), and son, Orville or Oswald (21), and buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Southgate. On May 8, 1930, he was disinterred and reinterred in Highland Cemetery, Kenton County.
Two of the three assailants died during a shootout with police in Indiana. The third assailant was apprehended, convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
