Age 39

On February 8, 1946, Patrolmen Eifert and Larry Olliges responded to a domestic disturbance at 114 W. 4th Street.  As they climbed the staircase to the third floor, Grover Cleveland Rose fired a shot at the them striking Patrolman Eifert in the neck.  Patrolman Eifert returned six shots, striking Rose in the face and leg, and then collapsed and later died.

Patrolman Eifert was survived by his wife, Catherine, and two children, Joan and Paul. 

Rose was found guilty of murder and served seven years in prison.

Patrolman Eifert’s son, Captain Paul Eifert, Sr., grandson, Sergeant Paul Eifert, Jr., and great grandson Cadet Chris Gangwish also joined the Covington Police Department.
